RELI 448N Week 7 Discussion: Indigenous Religions
Indigenous religions, such as those of Native American traditions, claim a special relationship with nature. The concept of sacred space is particularly important. What makes a sacred place? Can you name some? Are there any sacred spaces in your life and what makes them so?

Thank you for this good start in this discussion. Molloy writes about "three key patterns" that we find in indigenous religions (page 41 ff). What are these patterns? How do we see them played out in a specific indigenous religion?

There has been a lot of attention lately to the restrictions placed on women in Islamic society. How have women been restricted in other societies? What developments have begun to affect attitudes regarding the roles of women? Give examples of some religious groups that have opened leadership roles to women. Do indigenous groups tend to have women in leadership roles?
