After listening to my patient Henok, I would kindly explain to him that all these things are signs of his own mortality and fear of getting older. I would inform him that he is subconsciously trying to prove to himself that he is not as old as he is while fear of not doing enough before the end of his life cycle. I would then remind him that age is nothing but a number and that you are only as old or young as you feel. According to Erikson (Santrock, 2018, p 492), Henok is at a period of his life where he is struggling between generativity versus stagnation.

According to (Santrock, 2018 p 492), stagnation is sometimes called “self-absorption” develops when an individual sense that they have done nothing for the next generation. Generativity is the desire to leave a legacy.

Henok has already achieved generativity when he became married and sired twin boys. In contrast, Henok is feeling more stagnation as he is not sleeping well, believing that he is a failure, and missing his late father now more than ever. After asking the patient why he suddenly finding himself why is missing his late father recently, I discovered that his father was 55 years old when he passed away. I would then explain to the patient that maybe he is worried about not living long enough to achieve all his goals to make his life worthwhile. I would also empathize with the patient in wanting to change his hair color if he is not comfortable with incoming grey, but also suggest that he may want to start with something more subtle if he wishes to have a more youthful look.
