Depression is a chronic disease that has risen to epidemic levels worldwide. It has become a substantial burden on public health, health care systems, workforce productivity, and society (Tulachan, et al., 2020). According to the authors, Cheruvu, V.K., Chiyaka, E.T. (2019); Depression is a significant public health concern and is projected to be the second leading cause of disease burden. It is estimated to be affecting around 3.1 billion people worldwide, nearly 35% of the global population, contributing to 7% of deaths worldwide, and responsible for various socioeconomic problems (Cheruvu, V.K., Chiyaka, E.T., 2019). Depression is a complex chronic health condition resulting from a combination of causes and individual factors such as genetics, environmental factors, other chronic health problems, stress, anxiety and low income (Tulachan, et al., 2020). This paper aims to evaluate and appraise studies for relevance to the practice problem at national and local levels. Finally, explore distinct intervention strategies to combat the mental health epidemic, including factors influencing depression management such as primary care roles and barriers to seeking medical help. Mental health is linked to stress, anxiety, and low income, genetics and environmental factors.
