Introduction to the Education Practicum Project Paper

This paper will describe an educational issue in current nursing practice. It will provide information explaining why it is an issue, and present how this issue impacts the learner and/or organization/s. A PICOT question will be presented with a theoretical framework that will support the issue and intervention offered to address the issue.

Educational Issue Description

Today’s advance practice nurse educator face many challenges when teaching, one current issue is the engagement of the Millennial and Generation Z (Gen Z) learners. Millennial learners were born between 1981 – 1996, and the Gen Z learners were born between 1997 – 2012 (Beresford Research, n.d.). According to Erwin and Shatto, (2017) Gen Z learners are now beginning to enter the academia setting and Millennial’s account for many of the undergraduate learners. With these two groups currently making up a large number of learners in the academia setting and a large number in the nursing work force, as per the NJSNA Nurses Weekly (n.d.), it is important that the advance practice nurse educator look for alternate ways to engage these two learning groups because research has shown that traditional classroom teaching does not work well for these two groups of learners (Erwin & Shatto, 2017). Engagement has an impact on the learner because when a learner is not engaged in the learning process cannot occur.
