This virtual encounter was a case of child abuse, which is an important topic for all healthcare providers. As healthcare providers are mandatory reporters, the signs of child abuse need to be recognized and reported accordingly. Beyond reporting the incident, healthcare provides should offer community resources as child abuse can have a lifelong impact on the child and family.
The Chicago Children’s Advocacy Center (CCAC, 2022), is a great resource to provide to children and families impacted by child abuse. This is a nonprofit organization that helps those in need heal from trauma through mental health services, education, prevention, protection, and more.
