This presentation we will review pulmonary function testing. pulmonary function testing (PFT) is used to provide a quantifiable measurement of lung function and it’s used for diagnosis and to evaluate progression and resolution of lung diseases.
here are some lung volume definitions that you should be aware of if you were looking at pulmonary function. we have the expiratory reserve volume (ERV), inspiratory reserve volume (IRV), residual volume (RV), and tidal volume (VT).
ERV: the maximum volume of air exhaled from end-expiration
IRV: maximum volume of air inhaled from end-inspiration
RV: the volume of air remaining in the lungs after a maximal exhalation
VT: the volume of air inhaled or exhaled during each respiratory cycle
