One method that is used by faculty is a test blue print. The focus of this method is geared towards the student’s level of knowledge. Using the blue print allows faculty to structure test questions that are are centered on the topic taught and aides them in assessing whether the test measures the learning outcomes. Constructing a test is time consuming, but the advantages outweigh the disadvantages and is ultimately beneficial for both the student and the instructor. Utilizing the test blue print also helps the educator ensure that there is balance as far as the levels of difficulty in test items. Test questions should be developed that will accurately assess the learner. In this paper a test blue print will be created along with test questions for junior nursing students at a technical college. There will be 12 test questions that will consist of eight multiple choice questions and four alternative test items which will include select all that apply, ordering, matching and fill-in-the-blank. The topic that will be covered for this test construction is care of the renal patient. Components of this topic included are the pathophysiology of chronic renal failure, nursing management, diagnostic testing, pharmacological interventions, and labs.
