Reflecting on the virtual patient assignment this week, every week gets easier. Practicing these encounters week after week have made it easier to think like a provider. Last week, I wanted to work on my physical assessment skills and make sure that I was taking notes throughout the history. This week, I was able to take notes during the history taking and ensure that each symptom had an associated physical exam.
One thing I struggled with this week is being specific in my diagnostic tests. There are many options on iHuman that are similar, such as ultrasound and ultrasound doppler. The doppler will show blood flow and a regular ultrasound will not. Thus, my area of growth will be thinking exactly what I am testing for with the ordered test. The improvement strategy I plan to use in future encounters is defining the tests’ purpose. This will allow for utilization of a step wise approach to select the most appropriate test (Kosack et al.,2017).
