TD is a 42 yo male with borderline HLD and childhood chickenpox who presents with with complaints of diarrhea, blood in stools lightheadedness, "cottonmouth," fever, poor appetite, diaphoresis, malaise, and crampy abdominal pain for the past three days after arriving home from a business trip in Chicago. Physical exam demonstrated poor skin turgor, tachycardia, orthostatic hypotension, dry mucous membranes. Negative for chest pain, sob, tympany or dullness.
Diagnostic/Laboratory results:
CBC-WBC 13.5, Band cells 10% BMP- BUN:Cr ratio= 20.1), Stool culture (+) for salmonella enteritidis C-diff (-) Stool gram stain: gram negative bacteria Fecal leukocytes >10,000 WBC/mcl Colon bx: cancelled
Meds/Treatment:
Inpatient treatment: Instill isotonic IV fluids for acute lack of fluids or inability to tolerate fluids orally (Parker, & Unaka, 2018). IV Bolus 2liters at 125ml/hr with a clear liquid diet
Outpatient Treatment:
