Reflections Week 1-8 Student Name Chamberlain University NR505NP Advanced Research Methods Dr. Lawren Mundy February 28, 2022 Reflections Week 1-8 Week 1 Some experiences I have had with EBP in my practice areas include hand hygiene, and oxygenation of the COPD patient. As a previous clinical manager on a med surge floor and ICU, we performed frequent hand hygiene audits on staff to take sure we are in compliance, providing the best patient care, and preventing the spread of infection. I can remember when I became a nurse, we were taught that the COPD patient should have their oxygen between 2-3 l/m BNC, to prevent hypercapnia, but what I have learned is that is true, but is that patient is not breathing well and O2 sats are below baseline, that we can apply a nonrebreather in the long term setting, prior to sending to the ED. There has been many of times that staff has come to me or involved in a situation, and has failed the patients needs for oxygenation because of lack of knowledge. Some factors in my practice area that support EBP would include policy and facility protocols based on best practice. Some barriers with EBP, that I see, is when policies change, not everyone is aware of the changes, creating gaps in new knowledge. My role as a NP would to be to stay current on EBP, and research to be able to provide effective care to my patients. Week 2 Some challenges that I experienced with developing my PICOT question from my area of interest is that I chose an area that is very broad and has many entities.
