Atopic Dermatitis
Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a recurrent and chronic skin condition also known as eczema that can at times affect the wellbeing of individuals affected by the disease. AD causes itchy, irritated and inflamed skin due to many causative factors. It can affect any area of the body where skin is located, this came be a major issue since skin is the largest organ of the body.
When a patients skin barrier is broken down due to AD, it can increase risk of infections. There are many factors that play a role in the development of AD such as genetics, if a family member has AD, there is a greater chances someone else in the familywill develop it.
Immunosuppression also plays a role, when the immune system becomes overactive or suppressed it can lead to inflammation of the skin causing AD. Environment also plays a role, allergens, exposure to tobacco/smoke, fragrance, agents that dry the skin out can also leadto AD. This paper is written to thoroughly discuss the conditions atopic dermatitis, how the disease process effects patients that have it, survelliance of symptoms, epidemiological effects, plans of care and treatment plans. Based on the severity of the disease/discomfort many individuals will suffer from puritis.
