INTRODUCTION
Depression, it’s a disorder that affects over 10% of the worlds population but we as a society know little about it. Stereotypes tell us that depressed people are weak unless they happen to be artist or someone famous(Insel,2018). It could be difficult to understand depression because it is invisible, it is disorder defined by thoughts, a individual’s behavior or even feelings rather than obvious symptoms. Those who have experienced depression are familiar with comments by misguided friends like get over it, or just get up and do something. With depression, most have a hard time understanding what they are experiencing sometimes they often blame their selves for not being able to just snap out of it. To understand depression, we must talk about symptoms. Depression symptoms relates to how someone feels for example, constant feelings of sadness, maybe anger, sometimes guilt or hopelessness.
There are also symptoms related to behaviors like social withdrawal, maybe a lack of energy, even low motivation, they also could have poor concentration, sleep issues or changes in appetite. Individuals battling this disorder may have a poor self-esteem or even thoughts of suicide they could even have loss of interest in regular activities that we take for granite.
Symptoms may come and go over months even as long as years. The concern is some may believe that what’s in our head is imaginary but in actuality our thoughts feelings and behavior is influenced by a complex Series of chemicals in our brain. Neurotransmitters are chemicals that play a role in the functions of our brain. Changes in these levels can have a major effect to our mental health. Genetics also play a large role in depression, people that have mental illness in their families are more likely to experience this disorder(El-Gabalawy,2019). Environmental factors can also play a role in depression, living in poverty or even in an environment where there’s not a lot of sunlight, or even experiencing a traumatic event in your life can trigger depression………..
