Clinical Question

The question delegated to group 5 is how to prevent nurse burnout. (Risk, Cause, precaution). Research has shown that during the COVID 2019 pandemic, there were documented incidences of nurse burnouts. One of the leading causes of nurse burnout was limited staff as the increasing need of patient care population grew during the pandemic. The increased number of hospital admissions during the SARs-CoV-2 pandemic had created an extra workload, causing nurses to work long shifts without release as other nurses did not show up for work due to being sick contracting the virus, and fear of taking the risk and losing their lives. This extra workload for the nurses in turn caused burnouts. Burnout is defined as an “emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and a decrease sense of personal achievements” (Sultana et.al, 2020) Moreover, according to a recent survey conducted in the United States by International Council of Nurses (2021) stated that, “93 % of health care workers were experiencing stress, and 76%reported of exhaustion and burnout.” The PICOT question is: In hospital-based nursing do nurses who practice effective mediation have less burnouts compared to nurses who do not practice during a pandemic? A PICOT question was formulation to guide this research paper. The purpose of this paper is to address the problem of how to prevent nurse burnout, identifying the Risk, Cause and Precautions.

The type of inventions to be considered are a mediation room, increased staffing, providing extra support for emotional, spiritual, and mental health for nurses. Among the various health care personnels nurses are usually at risk of burnouts due to constantly working in stressful workplace setting, less staff and high admission rate of patients. When nurses are experiencing a high level of stress and feeling overwhelmed lead to decrease quality of patient care, decrease job satisfaction can cause the outlook on the nursing profession to become negative and also cause a diminished passion for the nursing profession……..Continue
