RUA: Topic Search Strategy
Clinical Question
Over the years, the health care system has been developing ways to minimize the workload on its nursing staff to provide the best care for the patients. Despite many attempts, there has been an increase in the patient to nurse ratio. Nurse Burnout Syndrome could be on the rise as a serious health condition because of the lack of staffing in the hospitals. The focus of our group is to compare the nurse-to-patient ratio in the medical surgery unit and the critical care unit to see if an increase in staffing changes the outcome of fatigue or burnout.
The significance of the problem is that burnout can put patients in danger because of a nurse’s performance. The nurse will suffer from physical and emotional exhaustion, compassion, sleep deprivation, self-doubt, loss of inspiration, appetite or weight loss, and depression.
According to Bacon et. al. (2023), balancing the workload among groups of nurses is important to the success of workload intensity which has a positive influence on the nurses.
In conducting research of this problem, PICOT will formulate clinical questions and answers. Are nurses who are exhausted on the medical surgery unit at an increased risk for burnout compared with critical care unit during a 5-day work period?
The purpose of this paper is to prevent exhaustion, fatigue, and stress among nurses. This paper will describe ways to solve the nurse-to-patient ratio that is causing nurses to be exhausted or burned out. (See Table – RN perception survey results on page 3.).......... Continue
