During today’s clinical I was placed in CVICU, where I followed the nurse named Andrew. We had one patient who will be referred to as MH. MH was a 64-year-old male who suffered cardiac arrest at home, and this was a witnessed event. The patient was vented, and during my neurological exam, I found him to have no gag reflex or cough reflex. After my assessment I found the patient to have a GCS score of 6 along with decorticate posturing noticed of the patient. The patient had normal cephalic and symmetrical facial features, with no lesions, infestations, or rashes. I did notice chain stokes breathing from the patient when the ventilator was not on 40 percent FIO2.
