This week at Hill Country Memorial I was able to be in the operating room all day. I have always loved watching surgical shows and I remember my mother telling me when I was younger I would make a great surgeon due to always being up in the blood and guts, be it on TV or someone that was hurt. I was able to watch several full knee replacements, a laparoscopic cholecystectomy, and an open hodge podge of several different abdominal surgeries. We bounced from OR to OR throughout the entire day, so patient care and even observations were very limited; however, I learned a TON about different aspects of nursing, certifications one could obtain to be first assist to the surgeon, and the roles of the many nurses in the actual OR........
