Basic care and comfort involves everything in fundamentals of nursing from assessments to evaluating outcomes of treatments and care plans. The nurse provides comfort and assistance in the performance of activities of daily living. Basic care and comfort also focuses on non- pharmacological ways to provide comfort such as positioning, warm/cold compresses, and deep breathing techniques. Basic care and comfort is important for nursing practice because it is imperative that we know the basics in providing care before we start to do the more complex treatments such as IV hydrations, ventilator care, and passing medications. We cannot provide efficient nursing care without knowing the basics such as assisting with activities of daily living, preforming complete and focused assessments, and evaluating intake and output.
