Healthy Behaviors (Nutrition and Healthy Eating)
Even though the nurses' role has changed over time, nurses are still expected to be educators. They teach patients and families about their health, medications, and lifestyle choices. Preventing illnesses like diabetes, heart disease, or obesity is one benefit of educating patients (Samdal et al., 2017). Patients actively involved in their care tend to have better and more favorable results. It is because they are more likely to adhere to their treatment plan, and follow their healthcare providers’ instructions. This paper seeks to provide a scenario where a patient requires education about an accepted and reliable, healthy eating and proper nutrition behavior to depict the role of a nurse as an educator.
Patient Scenario
In the United States, most people do not maintain a healthy diet. It is a sad but true fact. According to the CDC (2017), only one in ten adults in the US eats the recommended amount of fruits and vegetables per day, and less than one-third of adults eat the recommended amount of whole grains. Healthy People 2030 aims to improve human health and well-being through healthy eating, proper nutrition, and active living (The Healthy People 2030, n.d.).
