Cardiovascular Health Education

This paper will describe how a nurse educated a patient who had just received a heart disease diagnosis. The patient's unique demands will be considered when determining the patient’s level of learning readiness. The patient will be introduced to a mHealth app, which will aid him in maintaining his health and learning new practices to keep him as healthy as possible, given his new cardiovascular disease.

Patient Scenario

Ryan, a man in his 60s, was recently found to have heart failure. Ryan's family has a history of cardiovascular illness and stroke, and he leads an unhealthy lifestyle. Ryan is fat, with body mass index over 35. As for his lifestyle, he claims to be quite inactive and regularly consumes high-fat and high-sodium foods. Ryan worries that he won't know how to cope after receiving a chronic illness diagnosis like heart failure. Ryan knows he must make significant lifestyle changes to continue feeling his best. He is receptive to the instruction his nurse gives him and follows them diligently.
