Problem Statement:

 

A.W. is a 23 year-old college student with a history of infectious mononucleosis at age 15 who presents with acute pharyngitis and fever onset of symptoms 2 days ago. She reports tender cervical lymph nodes and an intermittent mild/dull headache. Patient exposed to roommate with similar sore throat symptoms. Examination reveals fever of 101.5 F, Posterior pharyngeal erythema, bilateral tender cervical lymphadenopathy with full cervical ROM and no nuchal rigidity. She is noted with Grade 3 enlarged tonsils and pronounced tonsillar exudate. Her uvula is midline. Negative for hepatosplenomegaly.
