During this semester, I was able to learn about a variety of arts. Art is comprised of many things such as literature, drama, paintings, drawings, and music. All of which shows us who we are and why we interpret things the way we do. Each person has their own thoughts and feelings on things, and how we see art is a prime example. During this semester, we were shown different varieties of the arts stated above. Each type greatly impacted who I am and showed me different ways to view an object or even people themselves.

 

The art that made the most impact on me happens to be the sculpture of The Rape of Proserpina by Gian Lorenzo Bernini made between the years 1621-1622. The statue shows a horrifying scene from the legend of Pluto and Proserpina. In this fable, Proserpina is assaulted while collecting flowers by the enthralled Pluto, who violently kidnaps her and brings her into the underworld (ArtInContext, 2022). This sculpture gives a sense of passion and suspense as Proserpina is fighting for her freedom to stay in the world above. The impact of this statue is tremendous to any and all viewers.
