This analysis will document the professional responsibilities and ethical decisions needed during a crisis in the case study “Command at Sea”. In “Command at Sea”, the captain of the ship, also known as the Commanding Officer is the person who holds the important tasks of war strategies, safety of all occupants as well as teamwork and communication of the ship.  The commanding office also oversees finances, equipment, and the use of force. Some examples of the Commanding Officer’s duties would be to report to higher authority, discipline, and punishment within certain limits; duty of care to the crew ship, and most of all making tough decisions in a timely manner. In this case study, the Commanding Officer has a difficult dilemma which requires immediate attention and quick decision making; a young seaman has broken his foot and requires immediate medical evacuation; however, there was no possibility to evacuate him this evening with his helicopter crew in the darkness of night, and weather conditions would not permit helicopter operations tomorrow.  If the Commanding Officer were to arrange it, he would need to do so with the Carrier Air Group Commander right away............paper continue
