Week 4 Lab: Microscopy

  1. This experiment aimed to observe how a virus can affect a chicken’s intestine and how this may affect their immune response….
  2. I observed how inflammation due to gluten intolerance can change the cellular structure in the stomach and how it could prevent the small intestines from absorbing nutrients due to malabsorption…..
  3. Light microscopes use visible light and glass lenses; they are suitable for studying live cells, tissues, and tiny organisms and produce colored images.

Electron microscopes use electron beams and electromagnetic lenses with higher resolutions and magnifications. They are ideal for the detailed study of cell ultrastructure, viruses, and molecular details, and they produce black-and-white images.

  1.

  1. Epithelial cells, also referred to as enterocytes, line the intestinal lumen. The small intestine's inner surface is covered in a single layer of cells that regulate water absorption and nutrient absorption as food passes through the digestive system.

  1.
    1. Tight junctions
    2. Adherent junctions
    3. Gap junctions
    4. Desmosomes
  2. This was an interesting simulation, and I discovered that intracellular transport and other activities might be observed in real time, thanks to light microscopy. In this instance, it was also possible to observe the reactions of several dyes upon insertion into the cell, an important observation for comprehending the behavior and response of cells in a living thing. I also discovered that knowing how our body fights infections depends on the comprehensive images that electron microscopy provides when we observe the different cells and their structures.
