The stratum basale/stratum germinativum, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, stratum lucidum, and stratum corneum are the five different layers. skin the deepest layer of the epidermis, known as the stratum basale or stratum germinativum, is separated from the dermis by the basement membrane (basal lamina). Hemiddesmosomes affix it to the basement membrane. Melanocytes are present in this layer. Desmosomes allow the stratum spinosum to reach out and contact nearby cells. In this layer, dendritic cells are present. Diamond-shaped cells with keratohyalin and lamellar granules can be found in the stratum granulosum. Granules of keratohyalin contain bundles of keratin. Glycolipids, which are secreted to the surface of the cells and serve as glue to hold cells together, are found in the lamellar granules.

The stratum lucidum is visible on skin that is thicker, like the soles and palms. It is a thin, transparent layer that contains eleidin, a byproduct of keratohyalin transformation. The skin's topmost layer, the stratum corneum, is made up of keratin and horny scales, or anucleates quamous cells, which are dead keratinocytes……..Continue
