Febrile seizures

 

  1. Are the most common childhood seizure, affecting 2-5% of children.
  2. Benign and self-limiting
  3. Usually occur between 3 months and 5 yrs
  4. Without evidence of intracranial infection or defined cause
  5. Peak incidence at 18 months.
  6.  The incidence in boys is slightly higher than in girls.
  7. Excludes seizures with fever in children who have had a prior afebrile seizure.
